Where You become the test subjects

LEGAL DISCLAIMER FOR ALL TEST SUBJECTS

Dear Test Subject,

At Exit Door we value your consent.  As such we feel it is an important legal requirement for us to disclose certain aspects of the testing process and its history prior to your participation.  Exit Door retains the right to withhold any information which might adversely affect the accuracy of any test results or negatively influence your decision to take part.

Exit Door understands that some candidates may find the following details to be distressing.  Test Subjects are reminded that in principle Exit Door is theoretically committed to minimising any unwanted or harmful outcomes where possible that you may be likely to experience as a direct or indirect result of your contribution to this research.

The experiments that you are about to participate in are based on real, well documented tests which were carried out in secret between 1949 and 1977, known as Programme E-X Delta and devised by esteemed professor of psychiatry Gaddeon Tavarious.

Operating under an anonymous Government intelligence branch, the experiments were originally designed as a method of interrogating and extracting valuable data from captured enemy intelligence operatives through a combination of psychological torture and strategic manipulation of the candidate's perception of reality.

During the experiment, the captured prisoners (referred to as Test Subjects for legal reasons) would be placed in a cell known as a Test Chamber.  Once informed that their interrogation would begin shortly the Subject would be left deliberately unguarded in order to supplant the idea that they might still have a final chance to escape.  The Subject would inevitably search the room for objects and clues that might assist them, unaware that anything found had been purposely planted there by government researchers who were observing them in secret.  Using environmental triggers and hypnotic suggestion the researchers would manipulate the Subject into frantically and obsessively completing increasingly bizarre and complicated tests and puzzles to try and escape before their imaginary guards returned.

None would ever escape the Test Chamber.  After prolonged exposure to the test programme the Subject's mind would become so fractured and their spirit so broken that even when shown the Exit Door and ordered to step through it to their freedom the Subject would instead choose to remain a prisoner.

Whilst the above might sound a little frightening at first, nowadays the concept of being locked in a room and trying to escape by solving puzzles before your time runs out is something we do for fun.  The shocking truth is that these forgotten historic experiments, conceived over fifty years ago, happen to be the dark inspiration behind the first modern escape games that we know and love today!

It's a topic and piece of history that most other Escape Rooms would prefer not to mention but here at Exit Door we proudly celebrate this fascinating research and we devoutly follow the teachings of our inspiration, the genius Professor Gaddeon Tavarious who established Programme E-X Delta all those years ago.

Due to recent changes in UK law which "effectively decriminalise" this field of human experimentation under the proviso that any Test Subjects are classed as "willing volunteers" we are super excited to have the opportunity to continue this pioneering research into the modern age with you as our brave, willing and lucky Test Subjects!

We would like to reassure all future Test Subjects that our methods and approach have   severely evolved   since the early original experiments so you can see there really is nothing to worry about! You'll love it so much you'll never want to leave.

Remember, Exit Door thanks you for choosing to waive your personal rights in order to make your valuable contribution to our research.

Eagerly awaiting your arrival,
