Never played an escape room before?t

Want to know what to expect?

So… What even is an escape room game?

A lot of fun! In a team of 2 to 6 players you’ll have one hour to find clues, solve puzzles, defeat challenges and (hopefully!) emerge heroic as you escape a creepy scenario before the timer runs out. You’ll be watched on CCTV the entire time by your helpful Research Technician who can provide you with handy nudges in the right direction (in exchange for a time penalty) if you get stuck. Still want to know more about what goes on in an escape room? Check out our detailed guide below.

Am I really going to be locked in?

Don’t worry – there are doors in every room that remain unlocked so you’re free to leave whenever you want. But you only win if you unlock the final exit door and escape through that before your 60 minutes is up.

And what if I need the toilet?!

At the moment there is no toilet on site so please make sure you go before you arrive! If it's an emergency there are lots of cafes and pubs nearby who might be kind enough to let you use theirs.

Is there a dress code?

We suggest casual clothing like jeans and trainers – you might need to crouch or crawl and you’ll be watched through CCTV so choose something you’re comfortable in. T-shirts with your team name on or matching outfits are encouraged, but obviously face paint is a lot more practical than a full-body dinosaur costume when it comes to navigating the rooms.

I’m nervous – can I drink alcohol beforehand or in the room?

Nope! Alcohol and escape rooms don’t mix, and the Exit Door team reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone they suspect has been drinking – with no refunds given. Make the most of the natural adrenaline you’ll get from playing and if you still fancy a drink treat yourself afterwards at one of Bacup’s welcoming wine bars, pubs or eateries within walking distance of 3A Market Street.

Can children play the escape room?

Anyone under the age of 18 who wants to play will have to be accompanied in the room by a paying adult. We advise against children under the age of 8 due to small and breakable parts in the room

Are there jump scares or horror actors in the room?

Exit Door is an atmospheric game with creepy themes. Tensions will rise as the timer runs out but there are no major jump scares and no one will be in the room with you. The only screaming you’ll be doing is for joy when you manage to escape!

I’m claustrophobic – can I play?

We suggest bringing at least one member in your team who is comfortable in tight spaces for you to fully play the game. Please get in touch before you book so we can discuss your individual circumstances if you have any worries at all – just drop us an email at info@exitdoor.co.uk or message us @ExitDoorEscapeRoom on our Facebook page.

What is that weird noise coming from the cellar?

Nothing. Don't ask.

Can I use my phone or take photos in the room?

No. We will ask you to lock your phone away before entering – you won’t find any answers or clues on the internet anyway (that’s what your Research Technician is there for) and if you share images from inside it will spoil it for people who haven’t played. We will take a gorgeous photo of you and your teammates after your game which we can put on our social media or email to you. We can also print these for you to take home for a small fee.

Can people with disabilities play?

3A Market Street is not currently accessible to wheelchair users but get in touch regarding your specific requirements. Future games will be accessible; we want everyone to be able to play and our gameplay has been created with inclusive elements. Again, please get in touch and we can advise you further about any adjustments we can make to accommodate you and your team – just drop us an email at info@exitdoor.co.uk or message us @ExitDoorEscapeRoom on our Facebook page.

What time shall I arrive?

Please get there five minutes before your appointment time – so if you book a game for 6pm, we want to see your faces at 5.55pm. Before your game starts we need to brief you on health and safety and get you primed and ready for the fun challenge ahead, so if you arrive late this will eat into your hour to escape the room. For your own enjoyment we can’t accept teams arriving more than 15 minutes late and will not be able to offer a refund.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice we will happily give you a refund.

Can I rearrange my booking?

We'd love for you to play with us and we know organising group activities can be tough so we'll work with you to rearrange a more convenient booking. We do require at least 24 hours' notice that you can't attend your game so we can offer that time slot to other escape room lovers.

I'd like to add more players to my team - is this possible?

Yes of course, and it works out cheaper the more players you have! Get in touch if you'd like to add more players or you can just pay the outstanding balance when you arrive, but remember team sizes are 2 to 6 players maximum.

I'm a business looking for a fun activity for my employees - is Exit Door right for me?

Totally! Escape rooms offer unbeatable team building experiences, and encourage skills that are so useful in the workplace from creative thinking to cooperation. We would love to help you organise a unique outing whether that's part of your interview or induction process or an enjoyable away day or Christmas party.

It's my birthday/anniversary/other occasion - can you make my game special?

We love making sure our players have an unforgettable experience! Definitely tell us what you're celebrating at the time of booking and we'll go out of our way to include your props, decorations or gifts in our rooms to make your visit super bespoke.

If you have any other questions, special requests or anything at all you'd like to say to us please get in touch by using our contact form call us, message us on WhatsApp or get in touch through any of our social channels.
